Is this the most Unobtrusive Launcher Ever?
Some time ago, I started getting posts and tips from a band of Initiate users who had discovered that with judicious use of the preferences, they could launch to an almost clear screen showing their favourite image, without limiting the power of the fastest launcher yet.
I've just created a new skin that will let them take this to it's natural extreme. I call it the purist skin. This is what Initiate will look like when you launch it!

Of course - you still have to find and launch stuff - But Initiate is designed around 'Type-To-Search' which is what makes it so incredibly fast on a Treo/Centro. So I just type 'Y' and I see some bookmarks, some contacts, two Mp3s and Yaps

I can now type more letters to pinpoint the app/contact/etc that I'm looking for, or just use the 5-way to select.
Here are the steps to set up a Purist's Initiate!
- If you haven't already - Download and Install Initiate!
- Hide the Views bar (menu/views/hide view name, or tap on the upper small arrow above the scroll bar on the right)
- Hide the Categories bar (menu/views/hide Category tabs, or tap on the lower small arrow above the scroll bar on the right)
- Hide the Buttons bar (menu/views/hide Buttons), or tap on the small arrow below the scroll bar on the right)
- Go back to the main screen and turn on favourites (Menu/Record/Favourites on/off)
- If you have any favourites defined, these will still show. The purist has no favourites - tap and hold on each icon to make them 'Not Favourites'.
- You'll now see the tip that warns you that you have no favourites. To get rid of this, go to the display preference page (Menu/Application/Preferences/Display elements to show) and deselect 'Tips'
- Pick a background that you want to use (Menu/Application/Preferences/Backgrounds). Initiate supports jpegs - and you can get some pre-made backgrounds at the Initiate background page
- Er - That's it. Enjoy!
- Ok - for the Extreme Purist, two more things:
- You might want to go to the display Preferences menu and turn off all the status indicators: Menu/Application/Preferences/Status Icons, deselect all icons
- You can also turn off the show/hide toggles: Menu/Application/Preferences/Display elements to show, deselect view/buttons/category toggles
