I'm very pleased with Initiate Pro! I use the clean screen "power view" that you describe here and find it ideal for my purposes. Initially, I was skeptical about 'type-to-search' and 'smart-search'. I took your word for it that it was worth trying and indeed I'm amazed at how fast, effective and efficient it is; I love it! I also value the the "shortcut" feature and use it in conjunction with
the period key to create "favorites" of the form: ".C", ".T", etc. One press of the period key brings up all my favorites, ready to launch. I use the side key to activate I8, usually followed by the period key to launch an app, or a few consonants to find a contact, or an mp3. I guess there is lots of function in I8 Pro that I'm not benefiting from, but I'm so satisfied with the above, that it doesn't matter.

Long story short, a few years ago I got my first smartphone: a Treo 650. Since then I have had a world of fun finding new and highly useful programs on the net. As the years past and with Palm seemingly sliping from the smartphone market, I traded my Treo 700p for a Samsung SCH-I760 from verizon. Quite possibly the biggest mistake ever. I imediately began to hate Windows Mobile 6 passionately cursing myself for being won over by the Wi-Fi capability. Now some 3 years since my first Treo, I recently purchased a 755p and ran to my laptop the moment I got home to download (first and foremost) the holy grail of all palm programs: "Butler". With your god-like knack for creating programs and my rebirth as a die-hard Treo fan all I can say is: Rob you just fucking rock man, without your programs the Treo wouldn't be half of what it is today. Keep up the good work dude, I look forward to Hobbyist Software's next great release.

Which brings me to Initiate. Actually I find Initiate and Propel to be the exact same applications, so either one will do. At this writing, I'll say Initiate because that's what I'm using. I am an avid user of ZLauncher and use it on my TX. I also used it on my Treo until I found out about Initiate. Initiate does practically everything ZLauncher does (excluding the File Manager), but it goes a step further for Treo users. You can begin to type in the name of the application you want to launch and it will search out all of the applications that have the same letters that you're typing in them. If you have only one application with those letters, you can set Initiate to automatically open that application. I can still have a beautiful Launcher AND manage my applications from the launcher AND quickly search for and launch my applications through my Treo's keypad. An added benefit is that there are plugins for 4cast, TAKEphONE, and other applications that work in Initiate (I'm not sure about Propel). Using Initiate Pro I can also play music and phone contacts all from the launcher. I can launch applications or made other commands on Initiate Pro with your voice. I use Initiate Pro on my Treo and absolutely LOVE it! I don't even miss the file manager, since I mostly use Filez.
... I guess what I'm really trying to say is that having Initiate (or Propel) is kind of like having ZLauncher made with Treo in mind.

Updated the power hero - and boy is it!! Maybe I didn't have the version I purchased originally set up right - as it didn't make much difference in battery life - but the new version has upped battery life to 4 - 5 days! I don't use the phone much, just working hours, but Palm itself was dead in a day. I charged the phone last Sat - was idle till Tues - and still show nearly four days life!! Great product - I will recommend it.

Thank you for all the great applications you've developed over the years. Lately, I've been looking high and low for an app that let's me manage the power on my Treo 755p and it looks like Power Hero is the answer! Can't tell you how many times my Treo has drifted into low power overnight and then I find it completely dead in the morning because the 20-30 separate power warnings generated by the OS have drained the battery. The Hobbyist has done it again! Power Hero saves precious battery power, now I have about 70% of battery left at the end of the day, with light use of my phone and moderate use of the network connection. The two features that are worth the price of the software are the automated Bluetooth and the Network auto-disconnect; the Bluetooth radio connects and disconnects automatically when a call is active, and the network disconnects after an user defined period which is great because Versamail sucks and leaves the connection always active. I downloaded the demo and bought it 2 days later. Highly recommended!

I was just looking at some Iphone pics and started realizing that one of the things that still keeps me in the PalmOS world is Hobbyist Software. If not for great programs like Butler, Technician and Reset Doctor, I don't know where I'd be. Datebook 6 rocks also. I had a pocket pc once, but fled back to the Palm world after 6 months because their software was dull and uninteresting, what you could find. Many thanks for creating not just great programs, but a reason to stay with the PalmOS!

I guess I didn't give Initiate a fair shake( because it was so different from the launchers I was used to) but after registering, using and loving Snoozy,Tech.,Butler and Genius (And after trying just about every other launcher out there) I decided to try Initiate again and I'm glad I did - after only 2 days I'm ready to register.

Of all applications, Butler (in its various evolved forms) has been one that I use everyday & every hour - followed by Technician. In fact, I uninstalled both and tested a day to see what I was missing - it is like oxygen deficiency. I must admit Rob, that not only are your applications of very high quality, they are also well designed.

I've been meaning to write and tell you how great, efficient and helpful your products have been for me. I am coming up on a year of owning some of them so I thought it would be a good time to write this to you and let you know how well they have performed over a period of time. I'm in Medical Sales with a lot of information to keep track of. I also use my Treo 700p as a "small" PowerPoint tool as well. In saying this, I can't stress enough how IMPORTANT it is for me to have a unit which can run programs (yours) and not "crash" on me while working.
The first product I purchased is Butler. It has to be one of the best programs I have on my Smartphone. Having PDA's in the past without a phone included, I didn't realize some of the shortcomings one has when they're combined (positive outcomes as well). I use every part of Butler (Just recently, I like the little change you made to the Keyguard function...a small, but nice touch).
Once I found how well designed Butler was, I bought a couple other applications. These are Phone Technician, Genius and Reset Doctor. Everyone of these programs adds great functionality to my first Treo! Because of your tools, it has made my Treo more enjoyable and given me a "mini computer" easier and more profitable to use (don't have to bring my notebook with me all the time).
Lastly, and probably most important, is your dedication to keep the new, and well as some of the apps that have been out for a little while, grow with more functionality while keeping these products reasonably priced.
You are constantly exhibiting what a business person/business should be...Honest and making sure your customer base are satisfied with your products.

I've just purchased your Initiate Standard for $9.95 because God forbid you don't want a "proper job" like I have where you have to go to ridiculous meetings, spend all day with servers and clients on the phone, do lunch within the hour, etc.... I wish I had the talent to program like you do because your products are outstanding. I was a dedicated ZLauncher user for a couple years, carrying it over from my Tungsten T3 to my Treo 680. When I first tried Initiate, I used it for a couple weeks and uninstalled it. I had already paid for ZL, so I didn't see any huge benefit to paying more money for yet another launcher.
The thing was, that 2-week trial was mostly me trying to make Initiate look and act like ZLauncher. The Applications view was my default view. I had spent 2 years tweaking ZL's skin, layout, etc., and that's where I was comfortable.
After Initiate III was released, I gave it another try. And as soon as I got the nerve to switch to Initiate's PowerUser view, my Treo world changed. My default Power view has ALL of the contents of my Treo, all on one screen (with one exception: Music. I have 7 gigs of mp3 files on my device, and they have their own view).
As long as I know the first letter of the item I'm wanting, whether it's one of the 100 photos of my wife/kid or 700 contacts or 500 Memos or 200 Word/Excel documents...you get the idea...I just type a few characters and the item opens. I now "live" in Initiate. It's where I make calls, send text messages, etc.
I still use other views, such as the Music view I mentioned, and a dedicated Contacts view for when I just feel like scrolling through the list to see who I haven't called in a while. Also an Apps list, categorized, for those times when I feel like playing a game but don't really know which one I'm in the mood for.
But to me, Initiate = Treo now. I can't imagine one without the other.
There's exactly one feature that's missing from Initiate's PowerUser functionality to make it Perfect, and that's the ability to start a search with a wildcard. After you input the first letter, wildcards are of course assumed. But I have so much in my device, sometimes I don't remember the name (much less the first letter) of a document that someone sent me last week, but do remember a single word in the middle of the filename. When that happens, today I use Resco Explorer, which has full wildcard filtering ability.
ZLauncher stayed on my Treo for a couple months, more for nostalgia than anything, but it's long gone. I still haven't figured out how to make Initiate be as pretty as ZL (I had custom icons, etc), but functionally there's no better launcher for a Treo than Initiate.

First a disclaimer: I do not know Rob, nor do I have any financial or other interest with hobbyist software and we are on opposite side of the "pond". I have tried many launchers, including the popular Zlauncher with little satisfaction. Actually most of my crashes (as reported by reset doctor) were caused by Zlauncher. After one of my many (and I stress MANY) crashes I decided to try Initiate. I reset the Treo to factory setting and began installing all my programmes, Initiate first. While Initiate does not have all the "customizability" of Zlauncher it has the essentials for a great launcher and then some (and none of the wasteful fluff of Zlauncher). I instantly found more stability and after a few weeks I have had very few crashes, if any. I added Reset Doctor to the memory and, to my utmost satisfaction, the crashes became almost a thing of the past. I have a 2G SD card almost full and I throw a lot of programmes at the phone with ease. All the customization I have done is no longer a problem for the phone. I have Reset Doctor perform an automatic cash cleaning when it gets < than 6mb and my whistles. Once the memory is stable and all the preferences to my liking I do a one time backup of my preferences. The odd time when I have a crash, I backup my preferences from Reset Doctor and voila!, like new. Initiate and Reset Doctor: the PERFECT combination for an (almost) PERFECT Treo (if such a thing exist). Those not using Initiate are missing out... Congratulations Rob.

The bookmarks feature in Initiate where one can prompt entry of string to substitute for "xyz" is awesome. Using it, I am able to quickly look up bus schedules on my public transit agency site without having to add bookmarks for each of the routes I take. I also appreciate being able to launch directly to the web pages I want without having to first launch my browser app to get to list of bookmarks…

Only after reloading all my software on my new 700p did I figure out how unstable zlauncher is and how many tics it consumes. So I took the opportunity to destall it and try Initiate. I already am a user of most of your other products and have been pleased with your attention to detail and incredible support. I can also say that I never really "got" what Initiate was all about. About 5 minutes after trying it out, I realized that it is how the Treo should operate natively. It is so intuitive and simple. Great app, one of the few I have kept as I go from the treo 600 to the 650 and now to the 700p. Always compatible, great alarm, keylock, navigation and remote lock features. And the customer service is straight from the software designer, can't be beat!

Your tech support is great. I was able to delete the program from my phone, download the update, get my password and registration code and re-install the program, all while sitting in my car and without a computer. You can't do that with Handango, Sprint or Palm.

I actually bought that phone techniian for my palm pilot, it works really well. that damn palm is the only phone that I could actually hear on, thanks to that application.

I just downloaded you update for 'Butler' Which I use every day and find it the most used app I have.

I've come to thoroughly depend on a number of apps from Hobbyist Software. I've been a longtime user of Butler (I think it was the first app I registered when I got my Treo650). I find the feature set of Butler so comprehensive and useful that I genuinely can't imagine using my Treo without it installed.

Reset Doctor has made the Treo650's unfortunate tendency to reset randomly and lose my preferences into little more than an inconvenience.

Genius saves me the time consuming steps of opening Blazer and loading a search page before I can begin a search. It really puts information right at your fingertips. Before Genius, it would take me thirty seconds or a minute before I could *start* looking for information.

And I resisted the temptation to try Initiate for a long time because I was afraid I would like it. I finally caved, and, boy, was I right. Through the use of favorites and autolaunch, Rob is right when he claims this is the fastest launcher for a Treo. And having my contacts as handy as my apps is a huge step up over my previous launcher. And it looks great, too (check out that Retro skin; it's slick *grin*).

Though I'm very new to the Treo series of Palm devices, I'm not at all new to Palm devices that preceded this series. I just wanted to say that I'm very impressed with your software. I have registered copies of Butler, Initiate, Reset Doctor, Phone Technician and Genius. The support of these products over at mytreo.net is stellar. I watched you hang in there during the recent Butler 4 problems with my LED flashing problems, uploading fixes quickly until a fix was found, all while this was clearly frustrating to you. I must say that Initiate is so much more powerful than it appears at first glance. The documentation and emailed Tips helped a lot. Now I use only one view, Power User, and can't imagine going back to a more traditional launcher, even if I stopped using a smartphone. Thanks again,

Reset Doctor ROCKS! Was having Outlook synch errors with Calendar... Scanned forums, looked at palm KB, tried lotsa stuff - no avail. Then my feeble brain remembered something about DB's somewhere in the good Doctor - voile' - it is fixed. Thanks for this wonderful tool - and the doctor aint too bad to look at either - but her needle is scary!!

I'd not really played with Initiate much since purchasing it, because the display was too cluttered for my taste. Today, I got the third installment of the Initiate e-mailed lessons and read about the minimalist skin. I downloaded, installed and spent a few minutes configuring things. Now, I couldn't imagine working without Initiate !! This and Butler are two of the most useful Palm apps I've ever seen. Base on this experience, I've just downloaded Genius! to give it a try. If it's anywhere near as well thought out, I'll be registering in no time.

One line summary: Gives your Treo some essential Phone features. Description: Changing my midi-ringtone with an mp3-one was my main purpose for bying that application. I must say that I never used it though - it's the other features that every decent modern cell-phone has that I profit from: programmed turning on and off of the phone unit, conference options and others. The best surprise came with the last update of PT - now it has a sound boosting function. It saves you money from that extra software you need to actually hear the ones on the other side of the line of your Treo.

Just wanted to say thanks for Butler. I'm up to a Treo 650, but with every Treo I've owned, I've always wanted to shut off that darn flashing LED which makes a room at night into a migraine nightmare! Other features are great, too, but that one made my day (or night)!
